crossing the border
from cuenca, i directly went to peru, after 24h of travelling in some tough and dirty road to one of the less used border check point: la balsa. there i had the most funny experience of border crossing. we ve been waiting in equador to get our exit stamp for 2h, cos we knew later that the policeman was drinking with the peruvians ones on the other side of the river separating the 2 countries. then on the peruvian side, we had to go to the house of the guy who s in charge of the immigration control. we called him, knock at his door, and he finnally appeared at the window of the first floor, half naked and hiding behind the curtains. he finally came to give us the paper, but we had one more time to get some other stamps from the policemen in peru, who were drinking and quite drunk in a bar. i had to go in the bar, where i found the equadorian policeman from earlier and the peruvian one that came after showing him i was bored and a bit angry, cos he didnt want at first. anyway, it took more than 3hours to cross the border cos all the authority there was either drunk or sleeping or enjoying their women. from there, 3 more hours packed in a car (8 people i think) to join san ignacio....
